Description

Color: Brown "Instructor for the Mandolin-Guitar Method," ca. 1920s. The booklet has 16-pages with a brown cardstock cover. The title is on the front within an ornate scroll, partly on the top and bottom of an illustration that is at the center. The illustration is that of a person's hand hitting a hammer on the instrument. Along the bottom are the words "A NATURAL COURSE IN MUSIC / MODERN-PRACTICAL-CONCISE Made in U. S. A." All of the printing on the cover is in black. At the beginning of the inside are a title page and a table of contents. The first few pages include an introduction to music; how to play the mandolin-guitar; how to read music; and how to tune the instrument. This is followed by several pieces of sheet music beginning with very basic songs that contain mostly quarter and half notes, to more difficult pieces. Also in the accession is a mandolin-guitar which is item .1, a hammer .2, a pick .3, tuning key .4, and instruction sheets .6. In overall good condition, the artifact has light abrasions; some brittleness along the spine; small creases at the corners; light yellowing of the pages; and tarnish on the staples.
