Description

Color: Gold; Red "Interior Wall Decoration: Plain and Decorative Finishes, Practical Working Methods," by F. N. Vanderwalker (Chicago: Frederick J. Drake & Co., 1924), 451 pp. The book has a red hardcover with the title across the top and the author's name at the center below an ornate leaf design. The title, author's name, and publisher are on the spine. All of the printing on the cover is in gold. Written at the center of the first fly sheet is, "Mr. Marcel D. Wahlberg." This is followed by a list of special subject books; a title page; a preface; a table of contents; and a list of illustrations. There are 20 chapters on the subject of wall decor that cover such aspects as wall treatments; the relation of walls to furnishings; decorating procedures; surface preparation; materials; radiator painting; staining, glazing, and other finishes; textures; hanging and painting wall fabrics; wall panels; and lining and striping. There are many black and white drawings and photographs throughout. At the back is an index and a section listing other books of interest by the company. With some abrasions; fading of the gold lettering on the spine; two small stains on the back; and a tobacco smell between the pages, the artifact is in good overall condition.
