Description

Color: Blue; Brown Catalog Number 17, issued by the Iowa Gate Company, ca. 1920s. The 128-page artifact has a blue paper cover, with a brown and blue border around the title and company name, which are at the top in brown. On the bottom right of the border within an oval is the word, "CLAY." This logo, as well as the company name and catalog number, are also on the spine. At the beginning is an index, a guarantee, and information about the construction of Clay brand gates. Items available for sale include a variety of gates; gate hinges and fittings; a variety of fences; home and cemetery arches; cow stanchions; pens; barn windows and ventilators; water bowls and feeders; and carrier tracks and switches. Also included is a section on building good hog and pig houses using company products. At the back is a table of estimated freight costs per weight. Many black and white illustrations and photographs, as well as two color ads, are included. The object has some abrasions; creases and dents on the cover; surface soiling; and a musty smell, but is in good condition overall.
