Description

Color: White An Italian-made white doily, ca. 1920s. The round white artifact has a center field of unadorned fabric bordered by a square-shaped design with rounded corners done in embroidered floral designs. At each corner are designs in cut work diamond shapes and twelve small cut work holes--two in each corner and one each on the middle of the sides. Toward the edge are four large four-petaled flowers with cut work edge and a combination of embroidered and cut work designs resembling diamonds and four-figured candles or flames within them. In between these flowers are four human heads, two of which appear to be men and the others women, in round borders. Nearer to the edge are eight S-shaped and eight rectangular designs in cut work with embroidered vines and leaves and other indistinguishable patterns intermittently scattered. Small three-part triangular elements constitute the design on the edge. With little indication of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition.
