"J. No. 3, U. S. Coast Survey, Cortez Bank of the Western Coast of the United States," 1853. The map has two parts, a general view at the upper portion that shows the bank in relation to the California coast and islands from San Juan Capistrano southward below the Mexican border and from Santa Barbara Island to San Clemente Island and the open ocean and a detail occupying most of the map showing sounding locations taken, as well as remarks about the findings of the soundings. With some folds, browning, and creases, the condition is good.
