Description

JACK AND DORIS ROMERO WITH AN UNKNOWN CHILD AT THE HOMESTEAD, CA. 1929 Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of Jack and Doris Romero with an unknown child at the Homestead, ca. 1929. The three children appear in the center of the photograph with Jack Romero standing on the far left. Seen only from the waist up, he wears a white button shirt and has both hands in his dark slacks. With his hair parted to the right, he looks forward and smiles at the photographer. Also looking at the camera is Doris Romero who is standing in the back on top of a planter edging. She has her hair bobbed and is wearing a white short-sleeved dress, which reaches down to her thighs, rolled-down socks, and buckle shoes. Below the edging on the far right is an unknown boy, who wears a striped long-sleeve shirt, tie, and knickers. His hair is parted in the middle, his hands are at his sides, and he is looking down towards the left. Across the background is the white wall of a building which has a door in the center. The wood on the door forms a herringbone pattern while two of the door's iron latches can be seen on the left, and one on the right. In front of the door is the trunk of a palm tree, and to the far right scraps of wood and a water hose. Jack and Doris Romero were the children of Jack Romero, ranch foreman, chauffeur, and brother of the Temple family housekeeper, Maud Romero Bassity. With no signs of wear, the image, which has a corresponding negative in 99.6.7.174, is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
