Description

Color: Black; Green; Red; White A cookbook on desserts, issued by The Jell-O Company, 1928. On the front cover is a colored image of a gelating dessert on a plate with strawberries on the plate, loose on the table and on stems of a strawberry plant used as a garnish. A spoon lies next to the plate. At the top are the words "TODAY / . . . what salad . . . what dessert?" At the bottom is the Jell-O name and the phrase "brings DOZENS / of answers . . . . . . ." On the reverse is an image of two types of Jell-O based desserts, the company name and slogan "AMERICA'S MOST FAMOUS DESSERT," and an image of a Jell-O package. Inside is a two-page description of the product and a list of seven national expositions at which it won awards. There is also a list of the five available flavors. From page five are recipes, accompanied in some cases by color images of the desserts. Periodically at the bottom of pages are listings of the five flavors and the phrase "There is only one Jell-O / Be sure Jell-O is on the package." From page 16 are salad recipes. On page 22 is a list of "Jell-O Rules" for use of the product and on the inside back cover is a special offer for seven Jell-O molds, including an order coupon. In good condition, the object has some dents at the corner and the bottom near the center; some light soiling; a small faint stain at the front right; and stains on both covers from an unknown acidic overlay.
