"Jim Brown's Bargain Book," a catalog issued by The Brown Fence and Wire Company, 1927. The 112-page artifact has an image of a farm on the front cover, including a large barn with two silos at its left end, a wire-fenced area with cows, a sheep and a pig, at right, and, at the foreground left, two men standing by an open mailbox and one man holding a copy of the catalog. The title of the publication, with some of the products offered in it, is at the top in orange and black lettering, while the company name and place of business is in white lettering, within a black box at the bottom. A statement from company owner Brown, along with his photograph and a statement on 24-hour service is on the inside front cover, followed by pages on freight-paid services; the company's value to their customers; customer letters; testimonials from banks in Cleveland; a statement that company ads were carried in 125 publications; two pages on good fence qualities; and three more on galvanizing. Products listings begin on page 11 and include fencing with varying heights and numbers of bars, priced per rod and with photos and drawings of the products. Fences are offered for keeping hogs, sheep, cattle, poultry, rabbits. Barbed, smooth, braced, grape and mesh wire are also offered, as well as fence stretchers; steel fence and gate posts; gates; fences and gates for residential use; galvanized metal, asphalt, and slate roofing and shingles; and paint. At the back is a guarantee and statement of terms. Pages are slightly discolored and there are tears at the spine and cover creases, so the document is in fair condition.Lexicon
