Color: Black; white
An engraving of John H. Temple, done by E. G. Williams & Bro. for the American Historical Society, ca. 1920. The image is 6 1/2"H x 4 3/4"W in a box border on a large piece of paper and Temple is portrayed in an upper torso shot wearing a dark suit and vest; white shirt; bow tie; and lapel pin. This image is reproduced in John Steven McGroarty's "From the Mountains to the Sea" history of southern California, published in 1921. Since John H. Temple, son of F. P. F. Temple, provided much information to McGroarty for biographical sketches of himself and other family members, it is assumed this copy belonged to him. The piece was evidently framed because discoloration shows a matte or frame shadow. In fair condition, there is much surface soiling and stains; tape at the center of the left and right edges; creases; a 2" tear at the lower part of the right edge; dented corners; and much discoloration.Lexicon
