JOHN H. TEMPLE FAMILY AT WORKMAN HOUSE, CA. 1889
Color: Black; White
A black and white reproduction photograph of the John H. Temple family at the northeast corner of the Workman House, ca. 1889. The family stands at the corner of the house with John H. Temple, wearing a dark colored vest, trousers and hat and white shirt, holding the hands of his two sons, Pliny F. and F. P. F. II, while Anita D. Temple, wearing a dark dress stands to their right. Behind her against the house is an older unidentified man. Most of the house is visible, including the window on the east wall that is now a door. Some landscaping, including a small tree and, behind it, a trellis, as well as small shrubs and bushes are at the side and front. At the extreme left can be seen portions of the Water Tower and the larger of the Workman wineries. At the center right edge of the original was a number "241" written by the unknown photographer. On the reverse in red ink is "Workman House" and below this, in blue ink probably written by donor Loretta Berner is "Early picture / given by Edith Stanton / To Rancho Los Cerritos / 1966." Edith Temple Stanton was a daughter of John and Anita Temple, born in 1891, shortly after the original image was taken. At the bottom right is the number "25" in blue ink. A letter of August 1970 indicated that a copy at Rancho Los Cerritos named J. B. Blanchard & Co. of Los Angeles as the photographers. With little discernible damage or wear, the artifact is in good condition.
