Description

JOHN H. TEMPLE FAMILY AT WORKMAN HOUSE, CA. 1889 Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of Temple family members standing in front of the Workman house, ca. 1889. The two-story home is in the back center where on the left can be seen the east side. Seen at center is the east wing which has an arched window in the top center, and triple-fronted window directly below; this window has two capitals in the center, triple-arched cornice, and molded brackets. To the right are the turned balusters, plain posts, and north wall of the south porch; on the wall can be seen the painted plaster facade and paned-glass window. The home is capped by a pitched roof which has wood shingles; brick chimneys seen at the far left and right; and molded brackets lining the lower edging. Standing in front of the east wing are Temple family members which are John H. Temple; he wears a vest and hat while holding the hands of his two eldest children, Francis and Pliny; his wife, Anita Davoust Temple, stands to the right wearing a dark top and long skirt; her father, Adrien Temple, stands to the far right in a white beard and dark suit. In the foreground and around the home are bushes, and to the far right a tree, which partially covers the southwest wing. In the background left can be seen a portion of the water tower. A letter of August 1970 indicated that the photograph was taken by J. B. Blanchard & Co. of Los Angeles. With no signs of wear, the image is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
