Description
John Steven McGroarty in academic garb, probably at San Gabriel, California, ca. 1920s. The image shows the poet and playwright of the Mission Play, performed at San Gabriel for nearly 20 years, standing on the dirt in a yard that may be near the playhouse was performed. An inscription reads 'To Juanita, from John Steven McGroarty, Lett. D.," the recipient being principal dancer and choreographer Juanita Vigare Zorraquinos. Apparent, McGroarty had just received an honorary doctorate. With residue from a photo album, some edge wear, and light soiling, the condition is good.
