Description
"Joint Resolutions of the Legislature of California, in Relation to the Placing of Troops along the Borders, and the Erection of Forts in California for the Protection of the Citizens of that State," published as Miscellaneous, No. 3, Senate, 32d Congress, 1st Session, 8 December 1851. The resolution, from 25 March, states that the citizens of California were "now at war" with "different tribes of indians that live upon our borders". Because, it continued, "there is no security for either life or property" and that it was the federal government's responsibility "to protect its citizens from the incursions of either internal or external eemies," troops in a line of forts along the border were necessary. The one page document has some soiling, browning and tears from being disbound, and the overall condition is fair.
