Description

Color: Black; white An engraving of Jonathan Temple, done by E. G. Williams & Bro. for the American Historical Society, ca. 1860. The image of Temple measures 6 1/2"H x 4 3/4"W within a box border and on a large page. Temple is pictured in an upper torso view wearing a black suit, white shirt, and black cravat. His signature is reproduced underneath the portrait. This image is reproduced in John Steven McGroarty's "From the Mountains to the Sea" history of southern California, published in 1921. Since John H. Temple, son of F. P. F. Temple, provided much information to McGroarty for biographical sketches of John Temple and other family members, it is assumed this copy belonged to him. In fair condition, the object has surface soiling and stains, some from a liquid; dented corners; small tears at the upper right; creases; and discoloration.
