Description

A cabinet card photograph of Julia Davis and Antonia Margarita Workman de Temple (1830-1892), ca. 1872. A studio portrait taken by Valentine Wolfenstein, Temple Block, Los Angeles. Davis was a care taker of the Temple children. She stands to the left resting her folded arms on a stack of books on top of a narrow pedestal. Her hair is pulled back and left down over her back. She wears a dark top with a large bow at the collar paired with a light colored dress. Beside her to the right is Temple, seated. Temple wears a long dress with a brocaded shawl with a tassel fringe over her shoulders. The shawl is pinned together at the front. Temple's hair has been pulled back into a bun at the back. The photographer's name and location are printed at the bottom of the cabinet card, but is only partially visible since the card has been trimmed. The item is in fair condition with minor warping at the bottom left, moderate fading and surface soiling throughout.
