"Kriss Kringle's Christmas Tree. Holiday Present for Boys and Girls," Grigg and Elliott, Philadelphia, 1847. This second and final edition (the first was in 1845) of the holiday book features the earliest published image of Santa Claus with a Christmas tree, on both the front cover and title page. In the image the elf-like figure attaches a toy soldier ornament to the table-top tree and has a basket on his back filled with toys. The work contains stories, poems and other elements common to anthologies of the time. With badly stained, torn, rubbed and worn boards and spine and stained, warped and foxed pages, the condition is poor.
