Description

LA CASA NUEVA AND MISSION WALKWAY THROUGH SOUTHEAST ARCH Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of La Casa Nueva and the Mission Walkway through the arch at the southeast corner of the walkway, ca. 1924. This image, by Albert J. Kopec, shows the columns on the eastern end of the walkway, made of half-round adobe bricks topped by wood shims and spanned by long wood beams, forming the foundation of wood supports for a grape arbor. It does not appear that the floor is yet under construction for the walkway. One of the gates is at right in the arch, in which two of the pillar supports for the arch are visible at far left and right. In the background is part of the eastern elevation of La Casa Nueba with the tile roof laid; window jambs in and painting of them underway. The walls, however, are still roughly plastered. There are no signs of landscaping, other than the top of a palm tree at the front of the house seen at the roof's peak. On the reverse center is a stamp reading "Kopec / L.A." Above this is a pencil inscription: "Sept 28th." Though there is surface soiling on the reverse and one slightly dented corner, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
