Description

LA CASA NUEVA AND WEST LAWN LOOKING TO THE NORTHEAST Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of La Casa Nueva and the West Lawn looking to the northeast, ca. 1920s. Part of the home's west wing is at the center and right. Its red tile roof is visible along the top. The French windows to Thomas and Agnes Temple's bedrooms are on the second floor from left to right. Between the two is the west bathroom window. Along the bottom are the Music Room doors and Library windows. In front of the Music Room doors is an arbor with four round pillars. Under this and to the right is a brick walkway, plants, and a small palm tree. Part of the lawn is across the foreground. On the lawn to the right is a round circle with dirt, which probably marked the future location of a planter. At the left of the background are palm trees, a cypress tree, and other plants. On the back is a blue stamp for Anderson Photo Service which was in El Monte and the number "35." The image was housed in Agnes Temple's photo album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. The artifact is in good condition with only a slight yellowing of the paper. Number-Units: 1
