Description

Color: Brown A color polaroid photograph of the La Casa Nueva basement vault door front being repainted, 29 November 1979. Dorothy Nersesian is shown in one of the two second floor storage wings of the house with a brush in her right hand at the lower left corner of the door, which lies flat on a work table, probably set up in one of the two side rooms of the basement. Nersesian appears to be nearly completed with the door, which had been covered by an overcoat of white paint, was stripped down, and repainted to a black background and colors of red, blue, brown, yellow and others. Included as decorative patterns was the manufacturer's name; a landscape scene; and dealer's name, surrounded by floral-like patterns. At the bottom of the artifact is an inscription in pencil reading "Nov 29 / Dorthy [sic] D.N Graphics Finishing / Safe Door 8x8." The "8x8" refers to image 99.5.14.296. On the reverse lower left is a pencil inscription "Mel," referring to restoration supervisor Mel Gooch. With little indication of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
