Description

LA CASA NUEVA CONSTRUCTION FROM THE WATER TOWER Color: Black; White A black and white negative of La Casa Nueva's construction as viewed from the Water Tower, ca. 1924. The view shows the entire house and its unplastered walls, the roof with plywood sheeting but no tiles, the early stages of the Master Bedroom and Courtyard balconies and the unfinished door and window openings. In the foreground are the beginnings of the Mission Walkway with three arches and the lower part of the wall completed. Some palm trees and evergreen trees are planted between the Mission Walkway and the center driveway and a palm tree is in front of the house. Construction debris lies around the house, as well. In the background are the fields surrounding the site with some new trees planted in them and, more distantly, other properties, trees, and, perhaps, some structures. Aside from darkening on the edges, not affecting the image, there is no wear or damage and the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
