Description

Color: Black; White A black and white reproduction photograph of the La Casa Nueva courtyard, ca. 1928. The original was photographed and part of the background on which it was shot is visible. At left is the fountain, which does not appear to be operating or have water in it. At the center is the planting bed between the fountain and the house with and an adobe planter and some banana palm trees. At background left is part of the covered portico and, because of light glare, the second floor deck is not very visible. At background center is the second floor balcony with the posts and railing and a rug draped over the railing at the left. The projecting beams with dog-head carvings are visible. At extreme right can be seen a few of the projecting beams of the eastern portico roof. On the reverse is the pencil inscription "Courtyard with no flame tree, but had banana trees [Walter doesn't remember flame tree being planted]- prior to 1927." This latter date is suspect, given dating of another original photograph in the museum collection from August 1927 that shows the courtyard much less completed. With little indication of signs and wear, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
