Description

LA CASA NUEVA COURTYARD AND WALKWAY CONSTRUCTION Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the La Casa Nueva courtyard and walkway construction within it, August 1927. The photographer, possibly Thomas W. Temple II stood in a dirt area just to the south and captured most of the courtyard area, including the centrally-positioned fountain; a planter in front of it; portions of the first-floor porticos; glimpses of the second-floor patios, especially the east side; and much of the balcony and main roof at the center. In the foreground is a large square wood mold for the laying of the wlakway from the eastern side of the courtyard towards the Tepee, which was then also in construction. A few thin trees are seen at foreground right, as well. On the reverse, there are portions of four stamps with the word "VELOX"; a date stamp at the center reading "'ENAMELO' / AUG 15 1927 / WEBBS"; and a stamped number 640 at the upper left. Webb's was a drug store in San Jose at which Thomas Temple had photographs developed. Aside from surface soiling at the top of the image and on the reverse, the photograph is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
