Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the courtyard of La Casa Nueva from the south, ca. 1941-42. The photographer stands on the lawn very near the south side of the Mission Walkway. Most of the courtyard is visible, including the fountain, which has a number of objects on the millstone, perhaps the abalone shells and stone pieces seen in item .140. Almost all of the east wing is seen toward the upper right, including the second floor dormitories. At center and left is a good portion of the main section of the house, including the second floor balcony and tile roof, on which are the original solar panels. The south end of the west wing is at far left. In the foreground is the lawn and a sycamore tree, while around the fountain are a variety of bushes and shrubs, banana palms and an adobe planter. On the reverse lower right corner in the hand of a former museum curator is the penciled inscription "ca 1942." Aside from one stain above that and some light surface soiling and discoloration, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
