Color: Brown
A color polaroid photograph of the deteriorated beam ends on the west side of the La Casa Nueva Courtyard balcony, 28 February 1979. The three beam ends are at the center, left of center, and right. The former is completely cut back to the wall, where the plaster was removed and the hole exposed to cut the wood back past termite and dry rot damage. The middle is hard to see because its dark brown color blends in with the red tile on the roof below it, but it appears there was significant damage to the dog head on that beam. The latter is a new piece of unfinished wood installed in the plaster and awaiting finishing and painting. Above the beams is part of the balcony rail. At upper left is a section of west wing storage including a window, part of the wall and the tile shelf below the window. At lower left is part of the tiled roof just above the first floor portico. An inscription in green ink at the bottom of the object reads "West Timber To Have Mastif / Dogs head carving attached. / 2/28/79." With little indication of wear or damage, the object is in good condition.
