LA CASA NUEVA EAST WING CONSTRUCTIONEntry/Object ID
99.5.35.1005Description
Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of the construction of La Casa Nueva's east wing, ca. 1923. The photographer stood at the southeast corner, where bricks were being laid in to the wall for what later became Walter Sr.'s bedroom. At left are the two window openings with long pieces of board and a sawhorse laid against the wall. At right is the opening for the east window and bricks to complete the top of the space appear to be stacked at the top of the wall. At the lower right, in the foreground, is a pile of sand, probably for the mortar. A can, pieces of wood, and other debris are in the foreground, as well. On the reverse upper edge is a handwritten pencil inscription, reading: "This may look like a brick pile but it will / give you an idea of the progress which is ha [?]/ made in a short time. M." The writer was probably Milton Kauffman, business manager for Walter P. Temple, and probably sent to Thomas W. Temple II, who was away at school. At the lower center of the reverse is a stamped number "448." With a stain near this stamp and some minor surface soiling on both sides, the artifact is in good condition.
