Description

LA CASA NUEVA FRONT DOOR AND MISSION WALKWAY SOUTHEAST GATE Color: Black; White A black and white negative of La Casa Nueva's front door and Mission Walkway southeast gate, ca. 1920s. The strip has six images numbered 12-17 from right to left, with 12-13 of La Casa Nueva's front door. The door has geometrical and six-point star designs as well as a plaster surround with columns, grapes and vines, and wheat. Flanking the door are iron light fixtures, arched windows, and potted trees. Part of a balcony with an iron front is at the center of the top. The southeast gate of the Mission Walkway is at the left in images 14-15. Many palms and other trees line the front of the arcade and La Casa Nueva is in the back. Some of the unfinished courtyard, south porticos, and tile roof are visible. At the right of the foreground is the center drive. Images 16-17 are also of the southeast gate, but in a vertical view. The courtyard and home, which are at the back, appear completed and there is more landscaping, including a tall palm tree at the right which is not in images 14-15. Part of the center drive is at the bottom of the foreground. Images for the negatives are in the accession as items .1.1-.28 with a contact sheet being item .29. The artifact is in good condition with no signs of wear or damage. Number-Units: 1
