Description

LA CASA NUEVA MAIN HALL ENTRANCE TO COURTYARD, AS-FOUND CONDITION Color: Brown A copy print of a color polaroid photograph of the as-found condition of the entrance from the Main Hall to the Courtyard, La Casa Nueva, 12 May 1978. The photographer stood to the right of the entrance, so that part of the stairway to the balcony is at right. The bottom riser is completely damaged with the tile missing and the adobe underneath the removed plaster exposed. An unknown item rests against the wall on the second stair tread. At left is the entrance with the screen door partially open. There is no handle visible and the paint is badly chipped, especially at the lower part of the door. There appears, moreover, to be glass or some other clear material instead of screen in the upper section. It cannot be determined if the inner door existed or was open. At upper left, there seems to be part of a white pipe emerging from the wall near where the basement door is. An inscription in dark ink on the reverse reads "Temple Mansion / South patio main door / prior to restoration / photo by archt 5-12-78." Below this, covered with a piece of tape, is the stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and telephone number. With little indication of wear or damage, the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
