Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the triptych window in La Casa Nueva's Main Hall, ca. 1920s. The window is across the center and features a romantic California scene of many people waiting at a harbor to barter with the incoming ships. At the bottom of the panel on the far left there are men unloading crates and barrels from a boat, and at the top is the back of a ship. The larger middle panel has the ships at the left, people unloading cargo on the bottom left, and the people on the harbor at the right. The panel at the right has the people at the harbor along the bottom and the branches of a tree at the top. Other details are difficult to discern due to the sunshine reflecting through the window. On the wall at the far left is a lighting fixture with a round lightbulb. Below the window is a bird ornament with spread wings, though the image is dark making it difficult to see. At the right of the foreground is the second-floor stairway baluster. At the center of the back is a stamp with the words, "ANDERSON / Photo Service / EL MONTE, " and "VELOX." At the top left corner is, "31." The photograph was housed in Agnes Temple's album which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With water damage, deep stains throughout, and tears at the top left, the artifact is in poor condition. Number-Units: 1
