Description

LA CASA NUEVA STAINED GLASS WINDOW PROOF SHEET, 1980 Color: Black; White A black and white proof sheet of photographs of four stained glass windows in La Casa Nueva, 1980. On the top left is a window depicting Thomas Temple in Spanish costume. He wears a wide brim hat, jacket and pants with embroidery, sarape over his right shoulder, and holds a cigarette in his right hand while leaning against a window with his left shoulder. To the right is a window of Agnes Temple, also in Spanish costume, which includes a mantilla and long-sleeved dress with embroidered flowers. In the background is a patio with railing and flowers, bushes, and a large building in the distance. On the bottom left is the four-panel door in the library depicting authors Miguel Cervantes, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, John Milton, and William Shakespeare. Each author is featured in a bust view within a circle surrounded by a leaf design and a scroll on the bottom enclosing his name. The last photograph is that of the triptych window in the main hall which depicts a romanticized view of early California life. Three ships are to the left with men on the beach near the bottom unloading cargo off boats. Several people, including a priest, are on the hillside to the right with a mission on the top corner. Each of the four photographs are labeled on the bottom right with the numbers 756, 754, 753, and 755 in a clockwise order. On the back is a stamp in black ink crediting Duane C. Alan as the photographer which also includes his business information. With no signs of wear, the image is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
