Description
LA CASA NUEVA VAULT DOOR PRIOR TO RESTORATION, 1978
Color: Black; White
A black and white negative of the vault door in the La Casa Nueva basement, 1978. The door is at center with fluted columns on the left and right. There are stylized leaf designs on capitals at the tops of the columns. Across the top is a sloping cornice, which was partially cut-off to get the vault door to fit in the basement, and an iron pipe below. A frame with stylized leaves on the corners is painted around the door. Within this is a square with shell patterns along each side, and stylized flowers and leaves on the top and bottom. Restoration later revelaed a painted landscape scene in the smaller square frame at the center, as well as the name of the vault's Los Angeles dealer. Near the middle left is the combination cylinder with the long door knob to the far left. A scale is placed just above the door knob. A stamp on the back right provides the name and business information of Raymond Girvigian, the restoration architect. With no signs of wear, the image, which has a corresponding photograph in 99.5.8.195, is in good condition.
