Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of construction on the west side of La Casa Nueva, ca. September 1924. Taken by Albert J. Kopec, the image shows the home with the walls roughly plastered, tile roof set, south chimney finish plastered and the adobe pillars on the second-floor sun deck placed, but not plastered. Wooden scaffolding is placed on the two-story portion and appears to be in the process of being placed on the wing. There are two workers in white jumpsuits, one entering the house through one of the music room window spaces and the other standing next to a ladder. Two men in suits stand in the dirt a short distance from the house. Buckets on the scaffolding indicate that finish plastering may be the work performed. The date is estimated from other images taken by Kopec and dated September 1924. On the reverse is the photographer's stamp: "Kopec / L.A.," while more recent inscriptions include a pencil inscription at the top left "Brown," referring to the owners of the Homestead from 1940 until the 1960s and donors of the image; a pencil inscription at lower right reading "108% / 2A / Terri"; and, in black ink at the left, "+34-110 / 30-140." With some surface soiling and light discoloration, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
