A program for La Fiesta de San Gabriel, September 1964. Wrapped in a red textured cover with the front showing an image of the Mission San Gabriel and its name; its motto as "The Queen of the Missions"; and a notation that it had been operated by the Claretian Fathers since 1908. At the bottom is the fiesta title and dates held. The 68-page program outlines events for the commemoration of the founding of the mission on 8 September 1771. Included are introductory comments by Thomas W. Temple II, who was the mission historian and editor of the program; a proclamation by the mayor of San Gabriel, Richard E. Nichols; a message from Mission pastor Bernard O'Connor; biographies of the assistant pastors; facts on the city; articles on native american corn grinding; baptistry vessels; the belfry; main altar; and a painting called "La Dolorosa"; the San Gabriel Historical Society, of which temple was President; a statue of Junipero Serra; the 1939 rededication of the original mission cemetery; the original mission crucifix and St. Anthony Claret; a list of events for the four-day celebration; a photo of Temple family members at the Pioneer Reception hosted by Thomas and Gabriela Temple; and many advertisements from local businesses. Aside from very light discoloration, the program is in good condition.
