Description

LAKE AT HOLLENBECK PARK, BOYLE HEIGHTS, CA. 1890s Color: Black; White A reproduced black and white photograph of the lake at Hollenbeck Park, Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, ca. 1890. The image was taken from a bank, perhaps the west looking to the east, of the body of water, which has an irregular shape and stretches across the photograph. At right, across the lake, is a path skirting the edge of the water and it appears to follow the shore to the left of the image when it rises into a low hill. Many trees are on the shore along the lake, though at center there are a few houses. The faded quality of the image particularly at this point and to the left precludes a clear view. In the foreground center and left, there is no path and the land meets the lake, though there are some trees at the left. Hollenback Park was established in the 1890s by the subdivision's founder, William H. Workman, nephew of William Workman, and the widow of a partner, John E. Hollenbeck. Compare this view with that found in item .25. As a newly produced photograph, the artifact is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
