Color: Black; Red; White
A partially bound volume of the periodical "Land of Sunshine," consisting of the issues from August to December 1894, volume 1, numbers 3-8. Only the back cover and inner flysheet remain from the binding, being black leather-like paper with gold line detailing. The issues are not complete, but contain articles on southern California, including the Rancho Camulos; trout fishing; floriculture; the San Diego port; Los Angeles; agriculture; regional scenery; Long Beach; the Missions; water; Los Angeles harbor; Los Angeles parks; Pio Pico and his death; churches in Los Angeles; "Spanish" cooking; the Chinese in Los Angeles; oil in the Los Angeles area; local fish; Santa Barbara; Indian artisanry; southern California homes; Tustin; viticulture; deer hunting; bandits; and, in the December issue, the announcement that Charles F. Lummis assumed the editorship of the periodical. There are also many advertisements for regional businesses in each issue. Because of the missing pages, losses of the front cover and flysheets, as well as tears, stains, discoloration, creases, dented corners, and other wear and damage, the condition is poor.Lexicon
