Description

LANDSCAPING NEAR POOL AND TENNIS COURT, WORKMAN HOMESTEAD Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of a landscaped area near the pool and tennis court, Workman Homestead, spring 1926. At the center is a large climbing vine with flowers, which may be planted at the corner of a fence (at the top right of the vine is a dark metal pole.) The same, or other, vines are seen at center left and center right. In the foreground is a patch of ground with bushes and shrubs. At upper left are a few palm fronds. There seems to be a curb at the lower right indicating a driveway or walkway, but it cannot be discerned whether this is the area near the Water Tower at one corner (the southwest) of the pool or the southeast corner along the driveway leading toward the cemetery. On the reverse at the center is a stamp reading "WEBBS / APR 14 1926 / SAN JOSE" and another stamp at the bottom right reading "30." Judging from the date it is probable that this was taken by Thomas W. Temple II during his return home to attend the funeral of his uncle John H. Temple, who died 10 April 1926. With little discernible wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
