Color: Black; White
A lithograph of the two buildings, the Central Block and the Lanfranco Block, of the Lanfranco Estate, from Thompson and West's "History of Los Angeles County, California," 1880. The item is housed in a simple open-window matte and shows the Central Block at the top and the Lanfranco Block at the bottom of the image. The former is a one-story structure on the western side of Spring Street with Court Street partially visible at left. Occupants of the commercial structure include the rooms of the City Council, a woman's clothing shop, a candy works, a shoe store, and a grocery. Persons on the sidewalk, horses and carriages, and a horse-drawn streetcar are pictured, as well. The Lanfranco Block is a two-story structure with the El Dorado Store, a druggist and chemist store, a milliner's shop, a cigar shop, and the Workman Brothers saddlery as occupants. This latter was owned by Elijah and William H. Workman, nephews of William Workman. As with the other portion of the image, pedestrians, a horse-and-carriage, and a horse-drawn streetcar are noted. The caption at the bottom identifies the buildings and estate, the city, and the publisher's names. Aside from slight creasing, a few small tears, and light discoloration at the edges, the artifact is in good condition.Lexicon
