Description

LARGE COSMETICS JAR FROM 12-PC BLUE ENAMEL DRESSER SET Color: Blue, silver A cosmetics jar a) with lid b) and c) powder puff, part of a 12-piece blue enamel dresser set, ca. 1920s. The cut-glass jar has a mouth of 4 1/4" diameter. At the neck are indentations in the glass, under which is a band, as part of the design, which also features four groupings of leaves and 16-petaled frosted glass flowers and larger 6-petaled frosted glass flowers between them; a row of circular indentations along the bottom outside section and a 24-petaled flower on the underside. The top part of the lid is of blue enamel with a radial-line design emanating from a center point and a sterling silver rim. The top is connected to a sterling silver neck. A maker's mark with an engraved "F & B" within a flag and "STERLING" are on the outside surface of the neck. With a circular celluloid handle, the puff is made of very soft material. In good condition, the artifact has two small chips on the inner rim of the jar; tarnishing on the lid's metal section; and some small scratches on the bottom of the jar.
