"Latin Tiles," a catalog issued by Gladding, McBean & Co., 1923. The 87-page hardcover book has a brown paper cover, on the front of which is a pasted color image of part of the roof and front entrance to a Spanish Colonial Revival-style structure with the title of the book at the top. Around the image is a brown border. The title is also in brown letters on the spine. The introduction to the book explains how the company's "Latin" tiles were conceived and created between 1913 and 1915 and details other tiles in their product line for roofing structures. What follows are black and white photographs of historic buildings in Europe and a California mission and their roofs. From page ten are many examples of modern American homes, churches, schools, and commercial and government buildings that featured Gladding, McBean & Co. tiles, with the product brand type, owner of the building, and its architect listed below. Many prominent architects are cited, including Elmer Grey, Reginald D. Johnson, C. Sumner Greene, William H. Weeks, and Myron Hunt, among others. At the back is a section of construction details and specifications for the several types of roofing tiles offered by the company, as well as for flashing, gutters, wood spacers and a roofing tile data chart. General outlines for specs concludes the work. Although the pages are fine, the cover has much wear, tears (especially on the spine), abrasions, and fading and the overall condition is fair.Lexicon
