Description

Letter (a) and envelope (b), Charles Brimblecom to Fannie Brimblecom, 22 March 1875. The letter is written by the author from Santa Clara to his sister at the family's residence in Boulder Creek, Santa Cruz County in ink on both sides of two affixed pieces of paper. While contents concern a fire in Santa Clara, Charles' work in the town, and other local and family news, there is a significant portion devoted to the hanging of bandit Tiburcio Vasquez, specifically the wake, and Brimblecom's description of the event and of the deceased. The envelope is gold and has the address, postmark, six cents in stamps, the cancellation and the torn side from opening. With an ink stain at the top right of the first page, some soiling, and creases, the letter is in good condition while the envelope is fair.
