Description

LIFTING OF CHIMNEY FOR SETTING AT WORKMAN HOUSE SOUTHEAST WING Color: Brown A color polaroid photograph of lifting of the replacement chimney for setting at the southeast wing of the Workman House, 4 January 1978. The chimney is at center resting against the east wall of the house, while a worker climbs a ladder to its right, possibly to adjust the rope and pulley that attach the chimney to the arm of the crane, which is at lower left. Next to the chimney and ladder is another worker, while a third is at the hole in the roof where the chimney is to be set. There is a dark-colored tarp on the roof of the house, in protection for rainy weather. The east facade includes the recently reconstructed section where the original adobe wall collapsed in 1977. The cement block, reconstructed brick at the second floor and other reconstructed details are shown before replastering was done. At the bottom right is the front of a yellow backhoe. An inscription in pencil at the bottom of the artifact reads "Lifting Chimneys Workman House / 1/4/78." With little indication of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
