Description
"LOS ANGELES AND THE WONDERFUL SOUTHLAND OF CALIFORNIA: YEAR BOOK 1928"
Color: Blue; Red; Black; White; Yello
"Los Angeles and the Wonderful Southland of California: Year Book 1928," published by the Los Angeles Evening Express. The eighty-page magazine has a color front cover (b) that is loose. The cover has the title at the top in yellow, red, and blue lettering. At the center, within a square, is an illustration of a man and two women having tea at a table by the seaside. A Spanish Colonial Revival bungalow is at the right of the background. The latter drawing is superimposed over a collage of illustrations that depict popular industries and leisure in the Southland. On the back of the cover is a color advertisement for the Biltmore Hotel. The magazine, numbered (a), contains articles and photographs covering news and other topics of interest in the greater Los Angeles area. These include newly completed buildings, such as that of Walker and Eisen's acrhitectural firm who worked on the plans for La Casa Nueva; financial and industrial news; the appeal of the area to business; the construction of the University of California, Los Angeles; tributes to Charles Lindbergh; civic news; leisure; the county fair; profits; laws; desirable housing; education; upstanding citizens; raising families; and more. In poor condition, the artifact's pages are brittle and darkening, and it also has acid burns; creases; folds; foxing; a missing back cover; stains; tarnishing of the staples; tears throughout; and wear.
