A black and white photograph of the Los Angeles City Hall and Courthouse, ca. 1870s. The two-story brick building, built by Jonathan Temple in 1859, is at the center and is slightly raised off the ground. Stairs lead to the building and are at the left and right. The structure also has such architectural details as a clock tower, arched windows, moulds, and awnings. Many people are at the left and right sitting or walking on and at the bottom of the steps. Across the foreground and at the far left are Main and Court streets. A telegraph post is near the corner of both streets. At the left of the background are several business and carriages. People and a carriage are at the right of the background at the front of an ornate two-story brick building, which is the Temple Block erected by Temple in 1857. Many elements such a keystones, brackets, and awnings decorate the structure. On the bottom right corner of the back is the copyright stamp of the Security Pacific National Bank collection at the Los Angeles Public Library. The image is in mint condition.
