Description

Color: Black; Blue; Pink; Purple; White "Los Angeles County Sportland," a pamphlet issued by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, 1929. The front cover has the title in black and pink Art Deco-style letters at the top, and an image in bright blue, purple, and pink colors of a golfer on the course, with a woman, male caddy, Spanish style house, and mountains in the background. The back cover has a similar layout, with the image being of a woman in a one-piece bathing suit kneeling on a beach tower. A large ball and a beach scene complete the image. The item has an introductory essay by famed sportswriter Grantland Rice and other essays on golf; polo; boating; surfing; touring by car; the mountains; winter sports; camping; fishing; equestrian activities; aviation; tennis; football; hunting; boxing; baseball; and clubs by such noted personalities as Duke Kahanamoku, Jack Dempsey, and Damon Runyon. An essay on Los Angeles as host of the 1932 Olympics and a centerfold map of the region are also of note. There are many black-and-white photos and some drawings as illustrations in the 47-page booklet, which has some edge and spine rubbing, dented corners, surface soiling, color fading, light cover stains, staple tarnish, and small edge tears on the cover, but is in good overall condition.
