2007.55.1.1Description
"Los Angeles Daily Star," Volume 10, Number 241, October 14, 1875. The newspaper has the title at the top with an image of agriculture, a railroad, two hands clasped in a handshake, and a center star at the center of the masthead. Below is the city of publication, day and date, and volume and issue number. On the first page are five columns of advertisements and almost four columns of state and national news. Page two has two editorials and the rest is taken up with advertisements, which also completely make up the third page. Page four has four-and-three-quarters columns of local news, including a short artcle about E.J. "Lucky" Baldwin's plans to subdivide 8,000 acres of Rancho Santa Anita, which he purchased in the spring, and "3,700 acres of adjoining lands," a purchase of the western two-thirds of Rancho San Francisquito from Lewis Wolfskill, William Workman, and F. P. F. Temple. The name of original owner, L. P. Fisher, a newspaper publisher with the Santa Monica Outlook then an agent in San Francisco, is in pencil and near it is a stamp from the Bancroft Library on the front page. With brittleness, some soiling, page darkening, losses, tears, some separation of the center fold, repair tape at the spine, and general wear, the item is in fair condition.Lexicon
