Description

Color: Black; White "Los Angeles Evening Express," Volume 7, Number 61, June 10, 1874. The newspaper has the words "EVENING EXPRESS" on the masthead, along with an image of a train. The city name and date are at the center just below and the volume is at left, and the issue number at right. The proprietor, Tiffany and Co., is listed in a box at the upper left along with office location and subscription terms. The first page consists of five-and-three-quarter columns of advertising and somewhat more than one of state and national items. Page two has local, state, and national news, the latter by telegraphic dispatches, and three-and-a-quarter columns of advertising, including new listings. Articles include a note that ex-Govenror Pio Pico, who protested the lynching of suspected Workman Mill attacker Jesus Romo, received a warning from the lynchers. Page three concerns local news, mainly about school examinations, and there is a listing of real estate transactions. A little more than four columns of advertising are also on this page. On the fourth page is a couple of national news items, with the remainder consisting of legal notices and advertising. At the top right of the first page is, in pencil, the inscription "Mechanics Institute." With creases, browning of the paper, a horizontal center fold, and small edge tears, the condition is fair.
