The proprietor, Tiffany and Co., is listed in a box at the upper left along with office location and subscription terms. The first page has five-and-a-half columns of advertising and somewhat less than two of national and state news. Page two has local, state, and national news, the latter by telegraph. Included in local items is an article on an attack of the store run by William Turner, miller at Workman Mill. There is also a letter from former Governor John G. Downey about the origins of orange growing and of grape raising in the Spanish period. There is also slightly more than three columns of advertising, including new listings. Page three concerns local news, including the election of F. P. F. Temple as president and his son, Thomas, as treasurer of the Los Angeles Petroleum Refining Company. Slightly more than four columns of advertising are also on this page. On the fourth page is a half column of national items, and the rest legal notices and advertising. At the top right of the first page is, in pencil, the inscription "Mechanics Institute." With creases, browning of the paper, a horizontal center fold, and small edge tears, the condition is fair.Lexicon
