LOS ANGELES EVENING HERALD, NOVEMBER 19, 1928 ISSUE
Color: Black; White
The 19 November 1928 issue of the Los Angeles Evening Herald newspaper, published by the Evening Herald Publishing Company, Los Angeles. The paper contains two sections totaling 31 pages. The front cover has a headline at the top concerning the visit of President-elect Herbert Hoover to Los Angeles. Below this is the masthead with the paper's name, volume and number, date, price of three cents, and, on each side, the latest news on the right, and the phrase "SPECIAL / NIGHT / EDITION" at the left. A smaller headline under the masthead reads "Al Jolson in Fist Battle" and the main headline under this is "HOLLYWOOD GIRL SHOOTS / HERSELF AFTER FUNERAL." This latter article concerned a Hollywood actress who committed suicide after the funeral of her cousin, another actor. Photos on this page are of Hoover's visit and of Al Jolson and his wife, actress Ruby Keeler. Another section, A, concerns national, international, and some local events, and sports. Section B mainly consists of entertainment, financial news the editorial page and the classified ads. Many advertisements for local stores, theaters, and other businesses are also throughout. There are five punched holes and cut marks on the left side, evidently from inclusion in a book for storage. In fair condition, the object has brittleness and some tears on the spine and fairly pronounced page discoloration.Lexicon
