LOS ANGELES FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA, VOL I
Book - "Los Angeles from the Mountains to the Sea, Vol. I", by John Steven McGroarty (Chicago and New York: The American Historical Society, 1921), 414 pp. A dark green hardcover book with gold spine print and some photographs and 1 illustration. The book is the first of three volumes with twenty chapters on the history of Los Angeles from its founding in 1781 until the 1910s. The index to all three volumes follows the table of contents. The other two volumes consist of biographical sketches of leading Los Angeles area residents (see 94.26.13 and .14). McGroarty, author of "The Mission Play", was a friend of Walter P. Temple, who financially supported the play and the Mission Playhouse (now the San Gabriel Civic Auditorium.) The book is in fair condition with cover wear, tears on the cover, spine, and some pages, some binding separation, and page discoloration. There is a book pocket on the fly page from when the book was in the museum's research library. The museum's library stamp and a pencil mark are on the flypage.Lexicon
