Los Angeles High School football team, Townsend Photo Studio, 1898. The image is a studio portrait of sixteen players and the coach or manager. The players wear uniforms, some players having their noseguards draped around their necks. One player holds a football and it appears that the year "'98" is written in white on the negative. At the lower left is the inscription "Townsend Photo / 340 1/2 S. Bdy [Broadway]." The reverse has pencil inscriptions identifying eighteen persons, including the sixteen players and their position, a manager, and the coach (see "Notes"), though it is not clear who is missing from the image. There was something decorating the mount around the photo, of which only residue remains. With stains, soiling, missing portions of the edge, and other wear, the condition is fair. The image is torn in half.
