Description
A stereoscopic photograph of Los Angeles High School from New Hight Street, Los Angeles, photographed by H. T. Payne, ca. 1872. The two story brick building with a clock tower sits on top of a hill. At the base of the hill, in the foreground, is the Griffith and Tomlinson lumberyard, consisting of a long adobe building with a pitched roof. This location off New High and Temple Street featured several lynchings over the years. Behind the lumberyard is St. Athanasius Episcopal Church. The photograph is in fair condition with moderate surface soiling throughout, minor scratches and adhesive residue on the reverse.
